Barbara is the former principal oboe with the Kingston Symphony and has been teaching oboe and piano at Queen’s University, as well as privately in Perth, Ontario.

Graduating from the University of Toronto with an Honours B. Mus., she was awarded a Canada Council Arts Grant to study with Heinz Holliger in Germany. She then worked with the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris, directed by Pierre Boulez. Spending the next two decades in London, she worked with the Royal Opera Covent Garden, the London Philharmonic, English National Ballet, several of the BBC orchestras, as well as in West End shows. She also toured the world with the eclectic band, The Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

Barbara has recently retired from playing and teaching oboe, but continues to enjoy piano, with many students at Queens Community Music in Kingston, Ontario and privately in Perth. She also teaches the Yamaha Music Education System with classes for both children and adults. In the past she has also taught Sight-Singing and Ear-Training for the Dan School of Drama and Music at Queens University.
