Klezmer draws on centuries-old Jewish traditions and also incorporates the sounds of music from European and international traditions, including Roma (gypsy) music, Eastern European folk music, French Café music and early jazz. In this ensemble, simple melodies are played and complimented with improvised harmonies offering the opportunity to learn about this style and its traditional scales.
Open to novice and intermediate/advanced ability with strings, woodwinds, piano, guitar, mandolin, bass, percussion. Listening and modest reading skills are very helpful. Simple improvisation is encouraged but not required. This ensemble will perform at the end of the week.
