Participants will learn about the stylistic (bowing, ornamentation, etc.) differences between classical violin and Celtic fiddling, as well as different fiddling styles (Irish, Acadian, Country, etc.) and the rhythmic patterns of various fiddle tunes (Jigs, Reels, Waltzes, etc.). Alex will demonstrate the basics and play recordings of popular tunes. Several pieces will be learned with the aid of sheet music and at least one by the traditional way, by ear!
For intermediate to advanced violin and viola players.Sight-reading ability is very helpful.Good listening skills are required for learning the traditional way.This class will not perform at the end of the week.
