2017 Program Guide

This page describes the general organization of the week at camp and provides some advice about the program and choosing ensembles and workshops.

Camp starts Sunday afternoon so you can get settled, explore the campus and have dinner followed by an orientation session and faculty introductions. Monday to Friday consists of music classes during the day and concerts in the evening. There are rehearsals Saturday morning, then concerts in the afternoon and evening. This camp is all about you making music, so all but one of the concerts are performed by the participants. You’ll find others willing to play/sing with you outside of classes, so come prepared with music or join a jam or dance session. There are no classes on the final Sunday, just breakfast.

Classes run on a fixed daily schedule. You are welcome to attend six classes (one per period, same schedule all week) as long as you have the instrument (keyboards and drums usually provided) and sufficient ability to cope with the level of music. Some of the ensembles require intermediate/advanced musical ability, which means you should have solid control/tuning of your instrument/voice and good sight-reading skills. If you’re planning to enroll in a chamber group, please refer to the ACMP self-rating guide. Some classes are also suitable for beginners, so you can try something new; reading skills may be helpful in these classes.  Each class has a webpage with specific details. Don’t forget, you can leave a period free to relax, practice or meet with others. Only the coached choirs and ensembles perform in the formal concerts on Friday and Saturday; not the workshops, technique and master classes.

Are you ABLe to take the class? Just check the letter codes: (A) for intermediate/advanced ability; (B) suitable for beginners; (L) limited enrolment.  Here are some sample schedules for your guidance. In addition to your special interest, consider ‘Try something new’ at the bottom of the page for more alternatives; it's a fun way to give your chops a rest. Please contact us for more details.
