Accompanist & Soloist Collaboration with Jenny Crober, Scott Harrison and Laura Chambers

flute piano 2012.JPG

For pianists wanting to learn more about accompanying and instrumentalists looking forward to working with an accompanist.

You'll learn more about the art of collaboration, including various means of communication and suggestions for successful ensemble playing: cueing tips, awareness of rhythm, melody, breathing, pitch ... and much, much more!
Participants will be paired with a partner for the week and typically work on one or two pieces of music with a goal to performing in front of the class. The number of performances will depend on your progress and enrolment. Each pair will work in a separate room and the coaches will divide their time between the pairs.
Music is not provided for this class. Participants (soloist or accompanist) must send music in advance so that it can be exchanged and accepted by a collaborator. Participants are expected to learn the music before camp so time is spent on collaboration rather than technical difficulties. Consider selecting several pieces of music with a range of difficulty unless you know your collaborator’s ability level.

Is this class for you?

For intermediate/advanced pianists with at least RCM Grade 8 ability and strong reading skills. Due to the limited number of pianos, some pianists may have to rehearse on a keyboard. A piano will be available for performance in class. Soloists need not have advanced ability but should be able to perform their part of the music without technical difficulties.

Participants perform for the class, but not the end-of-week concerts. Other opportunities to perform include evening concerts earlier in the week.

This class has limited enrolment.
