In Memoriam

Terry was a music director, pianist, organist and handbell ringer.

"Terry is extraordinarily organized, prepared and supportive. He is humorous, engaging and patient. I loved learning this new skill and will absolutely take this class again next year. Turns out Hand Bells ROCK! Thank you Terry!!" Participant, 2016 LFM camp

Terry Head was the Director of Music at Bridge Street United Church in Belleville then First-St. Andrew’s United Church in London, Ontario, and had been in music ministry for almost twenty-five years. He held a Master of Sacred Music Degree from Victoria University, at the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Western University, as well as A.R.C.T. 1diplomas in both performing and teaching disciplines. He also completed post-graduate work at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Artist-Teacher Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould Professional School and was also a Colleague with the Royal Canadian College of Organists. Terry was a private studio teacher for many years and accompanied numerous instrumentalists and singers over the years. He was an accomplished handbell ringer and performed in bell choirs and ensembles, as well as part of a duo and as a soloist. He had also been a guest conductor for handbell festivals in both Ontario and Halifax.

As Director of Music at First-St. Andrew’s, Terry oversaw a busy music program with several performing groups within the church, including the Senior Choir, the Laudamus Bell Choir, the junior choirs, the FSA Strings, and was artistic director of the Friends of Music Concert Series, which has been a long-standing program at First-St. Andrew’s. To Terry, being able to share the joy of working on and presenting major choral works like Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart's masses, and other works to congregations and audiences, was one of life’s sincere pleasures.

Terry was also past chair of Music United, the United Church of Canada’s national organization for supporting musicians within the church at both national and local levels, as well as being a member of the Board for the Ontario Guild of English Handbell Ringers.
