LAKE FIELD MUSIC...

This year I brought a friend from choir, and she too came away as a different person. Not only has she much more confidence in herself, she has returned to another of her life long loves and has purchased a horse. While it may seem that horse riding and music are not really connected, she wouldn’t be riding again if the camp experience had not made her feel validated as an individual. — Kathy Tyers

    Make Music Your Destination

    Sizzling Summer Concerts

    with NOJO (August 5)
&  the Madawaska String Quartet (August 12)

Lake Field Music’s 2010 camp program gets underway from August 1 to 15 on the beautiful grounds of Lakefield College School, near Peterborough, ON. This unique summer music camp for adults and families (formerly known as CAMMAC Ontario Music Centre) brings together new and returning amateur musician-campers working directly with exceptional jazz and classical faculty for two weeks of challenging musical skills instruction and creativity.

As in past years, the camp is thrilled to present two feature concerts open to the general public.

Held in the Bryan Jones Theatre at Lakefield College School (north end of Lakefield, at 4391 County Road 29, Lakefield, ON), each evening presentation will showcase the musical innovation and showmanship of some of this year’s lead faculty.

Adult tickets can be advance-purchased for each concert for $15 in Peterborough at Titles Bookstore (379 George St.) and at Moondance (425 George St.), and in Lakefield at Happenstance (44 Queen St.). Children under 12 years are free. Tickets also available at the door. For more info call 1-866-273-7697.

Dark Side of the Moon NOJO-style Thurs, Aug 5, 8 pm

During the camp’s opening week the focus is on jazz and world music. As co-leaders of their band NOJO, Artistic Director/renowned jazz player Michael Occhipinti will collaborate with Canadian jazz star Paul Neufeld to perform on Thursday, August 5, at 8 pm an original big band arrangement of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. This jazzed-up tribute to classic rock is sure to thrill fans of many musical genres. Other camp faculty Kevin Turcotte, Barry Romberg, and Louis Simao, along with a jazz orchestra composed of Lake Field Camp participants, will flesh out the band, and the Bryan Jones Theatre will vibrate with the hot summer-night energy that great music can ensure. www.nojomusic.com

Madawaska String Quartet Thurs, Aug 12, 8 pm

Midway through the camp’s Classical/Chamber focus week, Lake Field Music is proud to present the Madawaska String Quartet for a gorgeous performance evening on Thursday, August 12, at 8 pm.
