A Lead Sheet is a form of musical notation that provides the essential elements of a song - melody, lyrics, and chord symbols - allowing musicians to improvise or arrange the accompaniment. Knowing how chords work can help with sight-reading, improvising, and composing. Learning to read a lead sheet on piano can also serve as a gateway to jazz, pop, and jamming. This introduction will provide a basis for future learning and practice beyond camp. Music will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring a piece they would like to work on. |
